Artificial Intelligence is changing how projects, programs, and portfolios are selected, planned, delivered, governed, and evaluated. It can reduce repetitive work, reveal patterns in complex project data, improve forecasting and scenario analysis, and help project professionals make faster and better-informed decisions. AI is already moving from experimentation into everyday project delivery. Applications include forecasting, decision support, administration, risk management, reporting, resource allocation, and scheduling. However, the opportunity is not simply to automate existing processes. It is to explore how AI can improve project outcomes while keeping people, professional judgement, ethics, and accountability at the centre.
The SIG brings together project professionals, AI specialists, researchers, educators, and organisational leaders to explore two connected questions: • How can AI support project, program, portfolio, and PMO activities? • How can project management help organisations deliver AI solutions and AI-enabled transformation successfully? We exchange practical experience, use cases, research, and lessons learned. Through presentations, demonstrations, workshops, case studies, panel discussions, and collaborative experiments, members examine both the opportunities and limitations of AI. Our aim is to strengthen project professionals’ ability to lead complexity, improve decisions, engage stakeholders, and deliver sustainable value. ;
Our meetings explore the application of AI across the project life cycle, including:
• Business cases, project selection, and portfolio prioritisation
• Project planning, scheduling, resource management, and dependency analysis
• Predictive forecasting, scenario modelling, and recovery planning
• Early identification of risks, issues, delays, and cost pressures
• Automated monitoring, reporting, documentation, and administration
• Stakeholder engagement, communication, and sentiment analysis
• Knowledge management and the practical reuse of lessons learned
• Decision support for sponsors, project boards, PMOs, and delivery teams
• Generative AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, digital twins, and AI agents
